Aug. 14′th,Chester————————It is the day after Chester Race Week and Chester is fairly quiet after the biggest partying and sailing event of the year.On a warm and sunny August afternoon Pleasant St. in Chester appears to be aptly named. There are very few people and vehicles navigating the Village core. While walking along the sidewalk near the Chester Playhouse we bump into Jimmie Mayo browsing through the pamphlets at the local Visitors Kiosk. A strange site indeed as Mayo should certainly know what’s going on and where to go in Chester. It turns out he was waiting for someone and catching up on any new places of attraction in the area. Jimmie works in the local film industry, mainly as a driver, and today one of his charges is one of the biggest stars in the business.
When asked what he was up to, Jimmie quietly said he was “Waiting for Pierce to come out of the Playhouse”.
“Pierce ?” we asked.
“Pierce Brosnan.” said Jimmie.
“Sure Jim.”
And seconds later Pierce Brosnan stepped out of The Chester Playhouse ! He had been looking for information on Sir Christopher Ondaatje.
Pierce immediately smiled and shook hands as Jimmie introduced us. He is a genuine and down to earth gentleman. Sometimes you never know what to expect from the “Hollywood actors” but Mr. Brosnan was warm and sincere. Perhaps being an internationally acclaimed film star puts him out of the league of many of his Hollywood fellows. Mr. Brosnan was born in Ireland and moved to England at an early age. He was made an Officer of the Order of The British Empire in 2003 for his outstanding contribution to drama and the British Film Industry. For many TV and movie buffs Pierce Brosnan is best known as Remington Steele from the 80′s television series and James Bond in four award winning performances as the world’s most popular secret agent,007.
Mr. Brosnan is in Nova Scotia filming a miniseries based on Stephen King’s “A Bag of Bones” being shot in Halifax. He was in Chester with the Executive Producers enjoying a game of golf at the Chester Golf Club and lunch at Nikki’s Inn and Restaurant.
