Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has called for closure on director Roman Polanski's child sex saga.
The acclaimed moviemaker, 76, has been living in exile in Europe since fleeing to France in 1978.
He fled on the eve of sentencing for romping with a 13-year-old girl at a Hollywood party in 1977.
His lawyers made another bid on Thursday to have the case dismissed.
And Pierce, 56, who appears in his latest film The Ghost, is backing calls for the case to be closed quickly so the director, currently under house arrest in Switzerland, can move on with his life.
He said: "There's a sadness to the whole situation. What happened was wrong in every way, but I just wish the man well and closure for this time in his life."He's a magnicent director. He's iconic in the world of cinema."
Pierce added: "My heart goes out to his family, to his wife and to his children. I hope this chapter can be closed quickly."Polanski's lawyers told a California appeals court that his treatment by the state's justice system was "a really remarkable, astonishing record of misconduct".Judges are expected to make a decision within 90 days. Polanski is being held while o cials decide whether to extradite him.
